Go to BUILDING A NEW RELIGION FROM THE GROUND UP
- Add a comment
- Go to SIN - sorry but there ain't such a thing
It may seem odd, but . . .
If you were to compare my views to that of Institutional Christianity, they would probably be very close to Lonebutte's.
It's interesting: the way I see it, Yeshua preached a salvation and restitution of sins that did not need the rituals of the religious institution of his day. Because that institution felt threatened -- needed to impose a "unity" in a time of great division within Judaism, Yeshua was then crucified.
Within two centuries of his death, those who claimed to be his followers themselves developed an institution that pretty well simulated the institution Yeshua preached against. Then that institution began a centuries-long pattern of maintaining their views through violent means, very simimlar to the priests that forced Yeshua's crucifixion.
Many of us who contribute to Blogit would be dead or tortured into "belief" by now had we lived then.I think I'll add something here to the blog.

too anal for me
Sin is really big in the Catholic Church: original sin (baptism "cures" it) and everyday sins, big and small (confession and communion and extreme unction "cure" them, not to mention prison sometimes). It;'s a very anal system and a lot of trouble to go to, if you just use your common sense. Don't hurt other humans, don't hurt other animals, don't hurt the planet. Life is simpler when you're agnostic.

I disagree with you. You are throwing the baby out with the bath water. If
there was no sin, there would be no need for Christ. Christ died for all of our sins, but not everyone accepts his gift of salvation. Freedom of choice prevails. In Christianity there seems to be two camps. One says what you're saying which leads to universal salvation (which isn't possible or Biblical) and the other is complete legalism (saved by the law). The truth is some place in the middle. Murdering is sin. Stealing is sin. Name the rest of the commandments and they point out sin. God's character is in His law, but the law only points to the fact that we're sinners and need a savior. When we accept Christ, His grace and love covers a multitude of sins, but if we break His commandments, we have to ask for forgiveness. Our goal is to OVERCOME sin. The book of Revelation is full of promises to those that overcome. Overcome what? SIN. It can only be done by having a close walk with God. Jesus gives us the power and will to overcome sin.
If you read about the ten virgins you learn that five of them were lost. They didn't have oil in their lamps, the Holy Spirit. There will be a group of people in the end who think they're right with Christ, but He will say, "I never knew you." Why? Because they did not do the will of God. They did their own thing and thought they were okay. They didn't obey God.
Loving God promotes obedience to His law, not to be saved but because you are saved.
