Good luck with everything-- and I can definitely relate to companies not giving you the time of day after you go through the trouble of applying! It seems no one knows how to return a phone call or an email these days!
Best of luck-- hey we all know you are a good writer, why not do some freelance commercial and get some brochures, newsletters and things rolling out?
