This response on the News blog addresses your post as well. We liked all the activity. However, as Blogit has grown it is not possible to have everything happening on the home page. The home page needs to become a starting point for users. Not the end point!
As for the extra space on the home page. Please be assured that we have some new features planned for the space. The people involved in designing the new look do blog. 
Many people do like the changes. As can be seen on this News post. And we will continue to tweak the design and website to address any specific widespread concerns.
We do appreciate your passionate involvement with Blogit. All of us on the Blogit staff appreciate it! Thank you.

Perhaps they are just playing games with us, it sure has caused an upheaval.
How about all the wasted space on the home page, sheesh. I am seeking clients, I have a home business, I'd love to help the staff, I think it needs a woman/blogger touch. Does the person responsible for the changes blog? I doubt it and it shows!.
