The Gospel is GOOD news, not bad news.
I'm glad I've made you feel better.
Too often religion tries to make people feel bad about themselves.

Letting God do the heavy lifting
What you describe was once called just that - "letting God do the heavy lifting." Too many Christians think that someone who's a "soulwinner" had something to do with the number of converts he or she attracts to God. The person in the audience has to make a choice, and often he or she chooses not to follow Christ's teaching.

westwend, I have to disagree with you for the Scriptures do not teach

universal salvation.  It teaches that people can make a choice.  You can choose God and Heaven or you can choose your own way.  There are conditions, otherwise Christ would not have left His throne in Heaven in the first place.  Lucifer was thrown out of Heaven because of sin. Adam and Eve were exiled from the garden because of sin.  All but those that entered Noah's Ark were destroyed in the flood because of sin.  Lot and his family were saved from Sodom. The rest were destroyed in the fire because of sin.  In the final days there will be two camps.  The whole book of Revelations discusses those that either receive the seal of God or those that receive the Mark of the Beast.  The latter are destroyed because of sin.

People have a choice. Salvation or sin.  Universal salvation takes away freedom of choice.  God's kingdom and philosophy based on freedom of choice.  God is love...this demands such a freedom.

IT AIN'T EASY BEING TOLERANT
"Go ye therefore into all the world, preach the gospel unto everyone.
Teach all nations to observe all things I have commanded you."
might not be the exact verses -- it's the verses written for the church songbook where I went to church in the 60's.

So what is the Gospel?
My feeling is that it is universal salvation.
We don't need to lasso people and pull 'em in to a particular way of thinking.
Well, not exactly.
There is a way to think and act and the bulk of the world's relgions have incorporated that into their belief system.

and what did Yeshua command? -- Matthew 5-7, the soliloquy at the Last Supper in the Gospel of John.
departing from "sin by law, expurgation of the sin by sacrifice (Jewish) every year" cycle that gave the priesthood power over the worshippers.
One sacrifice for all.
and salvation to all that believe that there is salvation.
Christ is a concept.
I have to watch that I'm not too dogmatic.
I feel that Christ is in all people of all religions. Christ transcends Christianity.
Labels are limiting.
Christ is not.

"Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Ghost." (Matt. 28:20) -- the great commission.
