                    I think it was the Gospel writers' problem
                
                We tend to think that Jesus was in the tomb for 72 hours. The truth is that the writers were thinking by the calendar and the sun and not by the clock - Friday, Saturday and Sunday are three days, so that's how they arrived at their figure. 72 hurs would have been midafternoon Sunday, if you want to hold the writers to that - the truth is more like 36 at the most (3 PM Friday is when he died, he was buried within hours, and was resurrected early Sunday, after midnight Israeli time if you use modern clocks to approximate what was meant in the Gospels).
