Editormum,
Excellent rebuttal! You should submit it to the same publisher for consideration.

Parody? I'm not so sure....
yes, I realize that a good bit of it is somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but a lot of it also parrots the "slings and arrows" hurled by larger, more serious news outlets.
I think you meant satire, in any case. Parody is a humourous imitation of something, as opposed to satire, which is "irony, sarcasm, or caustic wit used to attack or expose folly, vice, or stupidity." If it's really satire (like, for example, The Onion), then it's well-disguised. The Onion says quite clearly that it is a humour venue, but I couldn't find any such disclaimer on the site where that article was.

Parody?
I realize this was written in a joke of a newspaper, but it did not read like a parody to me...
Furthermore, alot of readers... are not going to see it as a parody and will become instantly predjudiced and suspicious of homeschoolers.... didn't we have enough problems last year with cbs news?
Enough already!

Geez Editormum . . .
Lighten up -- its just a parady!
You seem to have taken the article very seriously; granted It was rather crude to make the comparisons the author made but I'll bet only 1% of the readers (you and maybe somebody else) took it that seriously.
Homeschooling rules!
