I think if it's a close friend or relative I'd send the link to the debunking article. The Internet has opened so many doors. Not all of them have been good. It is us to us to close the nasty ones.

I've called and been called on a few emails.
If it stops the stupid things from being spread worse than they already are, just tell them. Most of the time, I just delete them though.
