It Isn't, but that wasn't the problem, really.
I just got what I have heard others call "auction fever" --- a mad desire to win at all costs, and I failed to keep track of what I was doing. When I started, I said to myself that I would stop at $50, but I couldn't. I now know what a compulsive gambler must feel like.

Yep majroj we've had great fun with this stupid thing
awhile back a new employee was moving some items around with the fork lift. This thing weighs all of 25 lbs. tops ( it's hollow ). Of course we waited in silence as he discovered his mistake. The entire crew watching him as he carefully lined the forklift up to lift this thing. At the perfect moment one of the girls in the office walked up to it, picked it up and said " where do you want it? " We still laugh about that one. Small things amuse small minds I guess.

That is a good one
but I'm laughing with you for sure on this one. I've posted about some unusually sucessful auctions I have attended but they don't always turn out that way. My biggest blunder of all time was on display for all to see one day. In the middle of a fairly big sale with frenetic activity the auctioneer was about to pass on an item. I hadn't insepcted it and could barely see it through the crowd but it looked expensive so I threw up $ 50.00 as I made my way to see it. The Auctioneer's gavel went down and he proclaimed " Sold " just as I reached it to look over my new treasure. It turned out to be a wood mock up of a machine made by a duck decoy artist with too much time on his hands. As he asked me for my bidders number I lamented " it's made of wood...it's worthless "...his response....." yeah so ? "
There is a happy ending to this however. After the guffaws from the crowd settled down I took the piece home and put it in my front window. I was having a good laugh at myself all of the way. For $ 50 bucks I have managed to get countless laughs from other people out of this. It turns out that just for entertainement value alone this mistake was worth every penny. You are not alone, we've all done it.

PS: Never take a Parkinson's or Tourette's patient to a live auction!
Michael J Fox says that is very expensive!
