Well first we need to understand what prayer is, and I can see this would make very good subject matter for a future post to my blog. However, until then, suffice it to say that in the spiritually mature soul, prayer becomes synonymous with a request for the accomplishment of the will of the Good. Contemplation in this way is beneficial because it allows time for reflection upon the opportunities available for the good to zoom forth. I consider prayer and meditation to be similar terms and they are essential for expanding the good within.

Action is the bst prayer
You're right.
People usually pray selfishly - for this victory or that victory over some adversity or adversary.
Both sides in a war pray to their god(s) for victory.
Kurt Warner thanked God for the Rams winning the Super Bowl.
Only thing is: victory comes to the most fit. Able to win.
I can't imagine all the prayers that have gone unanswered. I'd think more than those that have been answered.
Take the Civil War and Civil Rights -- I'm sure people in the Southern States prayed for victory in the Civil War -- and segregationists prayed for victory too.
People that espouse bad causes pray that their cause will prevail.
The angels proclaimed "peace among people of good will". That makes more sense than the blanket "peace on earth". Good will, I think, makes for peace.
Cultivate good will and you will have peace. Work toward the good things and you will answer not only your own prayer (can also mean wish) - but those of others.
I know lots of people are praying for you right now. I'm not -- I holler at God for exasperating moments -- have to holler at someone -- blame it on God -- why not.
And that's the bottom line -- we can blame a lot on God can't we?
Pray -- we get positive results and God is great.
Pray -- nothing happens and we wonder why God doesn't answer prayers.
We have to take the good with the bad and work for the best outcome we can hope for.
But to depend upon some God that we define as our "friend" or something like that? -- duh . . .
