Dont be afraid brother
just trust me. Jesus is real and He wants you. Come to Jesus. You dont have to admit it here or even to your family. Just in your quiet time(all we married men have it) approach Him. He is not going to reject, condemn or mock you. He wants you. He does not care about anything but your soul. Your mind, will ,hurts, and dreams.

Think, understand, study, pray
Think how difficult it is to communicate some things with blogs, even though you are communicating in the same language at the same point in history. Think now, how difficult it would be to communicate to an audience 2000 years after the point in time that you are writing. That would be a challenge. Perhaps some cyber archaeologist will lift these blogs from a diskette in a trash pile some thousands of years from today and wonder about what you are writing. Would it be much more than gibberish? Would this discoverer not have to put for some effort to understand, just as you must put forth an effort to discern the ancient? Seek and ye shall find.

You have just scared me all the more.
You just said that an all powerful God is just human in the end.
If that is ture, then we are so very screwed.
We alredy give too much power to simple humans and they have no clue what they are doing.
Having anything close to human in control of the power that can make universes, that is just too scary for words.
I think I've done a post on that already, I'll have to find it and revisit it for you.

But you have more once helped me to see my faith clearer.

please read the Bool of Revelation as metaphor.

think of all the possibilities for the "City Four-Square" -- what they are to the person who has achieved a certain level of perception -- of understanding of Life and what it holds.

Our atheist aithor her has, I believe, acheived within hijmself a level of awareness that pretty well equates to this vision of Revelation.

Whoever can progress past the rigors of the world around us (remember who the "God of this world" is) is approaching that foursquare city.

where the bible is metaphorical, too many take it too literally.

where it is literal, this is what too many pass up.

and I do mean those who call themselves "Christians", who say "'Lord, Lord', but not do the things that I say."

"love thy neighbor as thyself."  "he who loves not his brother, loves not God".

This is the whole of religion.

OK here it comes

God IS human. He is materialistic because HE created all matter. He surrounds Himself with extreme wealth because it likes it and He knows we do to, because we are in His image and likeness. If you were God would you live in a shack or a mansion?( ah the stench of religion is ever in my nose). It is religion and religious people throughout the annuls of history that has fed you all this festering waste that God is some kind of distant aloof asshole who has tendencies towards schizophrenia and sadism. God is a real person, I know Him personally and Im not crazy and I do not aspire to watch infidels suffer at the last judegement nor hurdle javelins in the form of airplanes into the World Trade Center. Anyway,  Once you see that God is very much like a person you understand His sentiment towards riches and wealth. There is nothing wrong with these things. I mean if you accept the idea of a creator omnipotebt God, why would He create the material universe in the first place? What did He need it for? The answer is for US to enjoy because He loves us. Not because He had any need for it. I mean the whole thing is realativly silly without human beings in it. He has no NEED for anything. Except love, just like us. But the bible that you loathe so much teaches that God is a Father and what Father does not want the very best for his kids. Religion has taught that God is not pleased with material wealth and would prefer His people to be in poverty and lack out of humility, that is total BS. A lie of the devil. REligion is bondage and I hate it. It has definantly given you the wrong impression of this Person.

I hope this does not cause you to detest God and Christianity even more, I felt obligated to try to explain the materialism thing.

Very well put
I will have to think awhile before responding. We are speakingto one another from two completely different universes and I am dissappointed that you see things in the way that is 180 degrees opposite from the way I hoped you would see it. You must believe me when I say I am not trying to condemn or convert you. I am just trying to share something that is to me very valuable with another human being, in hopes that you might understand it the way I do. One thing we seem to have in common is we are both unmovable in our faith.

If what you just said is true, then I am really, really, glad I do not believe in your God one bit. He sounds like a very messed up guy.

First off why would God be materialistic? There is no logic in the universe that could make that work for an omnipotent being. Wealth should be 100% meaningless to him. Precious metals are worthless to him. Nothing we hold as physically valuable should be on any concern to him. So why does he have such obviously human tendencies? Maybe because some human created him? Makes sense to me.

Then the fact that you as with others still try to claim it is not God who is going to punish all the unworthy, but it themselves who are to blame. That is a load of BS and you have to know that. It will be 100% God who is going to allow all the bad stuff to happen to these people, all because he has an ego that can not be tamed. And if all of God's children do not wish to witness such events, then why do you all want these events to take place so badly? You are screaming about how glorious it will be for these events to take place. None of what is written in Revelations is good. It is all about suffering and death to the majority of the people on Earth. Only a very select few are going to be spared. It is a very sick idea of the any religious group to be so looking forwards to these events.

I am so glad when someone like you comes along and helps me to reaffirm my beliefs in the non existence of God. it is statements like the one you made that helps me see very clearly that there is no God and that thanks to that fact there is hope for mankind. Maybe someday when others start to see things as clearly as I do, we can end so much misunderstanding and find peace and happiness in the world.

Actually, God is very materialistic.
in referance to watching those being tortured by Gods justice ( an inaccurate statement):

And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes;    this is from REV 21 talking about the reaction of those witnessing the fate of the lost. This event is not something that God or any of His children take any pleasure in. THe lost are not being tortured by God. They are in a horrible state of despair at the realization of their impending separation from Him as they now have come to know they have indeed rejected  Him.

Okay
It sounds very, very materialistic to me. Why does God care so much about what we consider precious stones? Never figured that one out myself.

But that still does not say that all Christians will be saved. From the sounds of things this is where the 144,000 people get to live after God has gone and taken care of everyone else.

Although that still does not justify the idea of looking forward to watching as so many of those around you will be tortured by God's justice.

The New Jerusalem

9 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me and talked with me, saying, "Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife." 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal. 12 Also she had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates, and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: 13 three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west.

14 Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 15 And he who talked with me had a gold reed to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. 16 The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. 17 Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel. 18 The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. 19 The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. 21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

that is what the new home for Christians and it is something to look forward to. I can understand if you are not a christian the book of revelation being threatning and bleak. As for the 144000 that is not during the time we live in now, it is during the tribulation period. In the future.

scary future
The bible begins in metaphor (7 days of creation, Garden of Eden).
It ends in metaphor.
believers in an End Time want to take the book of Revelation and make fact out of metaphor.
One aspect of these believers is they seem to take great glee in thinking that the world around them is going to be plagued.

they probably see some of their acqaintances and others that they don't like and think about their demise at the hands of these believers' "just god"

Jesus said, "do good by your enemies. Wish the best for them."

this wishing of catastrophe on people does not fit into Jesus' (Yeshua) teaching of "love thy enemy".

The interesting thing about prophecy is that people in every age have taken the Book of Revelation and other "prophetic" writings and applied it to their time, saying that the end is coming soon.

The "End" has been coming for 2000 years and hasn't come yet. Haven't I said that somewhere before?

Look at the book of Revelation, read metaphor into it. Check out especially the "one as the son of man" at the beginning, with the "hair as wool", go back and see the references to the "son of man" throughout the bible and understand that this can also refer to human beings (the two edged sword of a tongue is particularly appropriate -- our tongues do cut both ways, don't they?)

Let's love the people around us, both friend and foe, (not like the pharisees, who love only those who love them), here and now. We'll be sowing more seeds of faith than any belief in a God who strikes down our enemies.
