My chances are about nil
I think I would do a good job at it but I have mixed feelings about it. You are no longer a cop when you become chief in the sense of doing police work.

Here's the deal
If I make chief, I'll be in there for 8 years. He has also probably heard who the most likely person is to make sgt. in my place. It's not him because he's a bad example. That means he would be stuck where he is for 8 years. He's taking the big risk because he doesn't want to be there.

It is a dangerous game he's playing
and if as the present Chief's said he's not qualified for the job, he's shot himself in the foot with his current boss. How stupid is that?
