Ummmm...

If you are referring to what Catholic Spain did to South America -- that is not the Catholic Church.  If you are referring to the mass burning of witches (and suspected "witches") during the Inquisition and in the States (I don't remember where now) -- that is not the Catholic Church (the Inquisition was initiated by the royalties of Spaing; the events in the States were literally mass lynchings inspired by fanaticism and superstition).

Dear, check your facts.

In your post you said......

"True, the "old enemies" of Christianity -- the "Roman gods" -- have reared their heads and, like a recrudescent disease, have tried to stay Christianity's march through history.  But no historian nor sociologist as yet can make the claim that Christianity, like the Roman Empire, will die sooner or later."

And here, I must disagree with you.  The old ways have never tried to drag down Christianity the way Christianity dragged down the old ways.  Paganism does not seek to compete, but to live in harmony.  Christianity was forced, by bloodshed in some cases, on un-willing people.  The old ways didn't die out, they were stamped out forcibly and swallowed whole by the Roman Catholic church.
