Awesome post and so wise. I received some scathing rejections and wrote angry letters in return. I think the starts that I never sent any of them. It taken me years to grow the thick skin and detachment from my work needed to be able to take criticism. My ski instructor taught me that if we aren't making mistakes we aren't learning anything. That philosophy plus the motto,  "Never burn your bridges." helps a lot.

Excellent post Editormum
I too have been asked to give an opinion but have then been slated for it. As an editor you would much rather be able to give a good appraisal. But to tell someone what they want to hear rather than they what they need to hear does no favors.
