Renewed faith
There is much in the Catholic Bible that I didn't understand growing up. In my 20's, I lost both my parents to diabetes and alcohol abuse, and I was pretty lost myself. After my fathers funeral, I went back to Church to help me cope. I went to RCIA classes for adults who wish to either renew their faith or convert from another religion to Catholicism. It really helped me understand much more than I had any idea about and I'm still learning and strengthening my soul even more everyday.

I pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit before reading the Bible, and my faith and understanding has been increased tremenously.

Hmm.
I've always struggled with organized religion. Personally I think we should just let the bible go and move on. Talk about stagnating. Example: I remember going to church and being horrified by seeing the stations of the cross (Jesus going through the crucifixtion stuff). And he died for me...? What? I no want some poor bastard to die for me. Jeez man. How do you throw off the guilt of that, eh? So, moving on.

Hello. I can only give you a quick summary
of what our church teaches and a couple of examples of places they are specified in the bible.

On Confession --- Christians from the very beginning confessed to each other. At first, they confessed publicly before the congregation.(now that would be tough) To make it easier, individual confession was instituted. John 20-23 Jesus speaking to the apostles says: “Whose sins you forgive shall be forgiven, those you retain shall be retained.” James 5:16 “Confess your sins to one another.”

On Purgatory --- Revelation 21:27 Nothing unclean shall enter heaven. 2Timothy1:16-18 Paul prays for his dead friend Onesiphorus. And on a practical note, if God is infinitely just, should a mass murderer who makes a deathbed conversion walk into heaven with some one who's been holy all of their life?

On Mary --- I'm sure you know we don't worship Mary. But we can ask her to intercede for us to her son. And we do honor her just as Jesus did. Luke 1:48 Mary says “all generations will call me blessed.”

Hi
Your comment here, led to to read some of your blogs. I posted a comment to you on the loss of your daughter. Anyway, as far as confession, it is much different than it used to be. Of course, I don't know how old you are, but when I went to confession as a younger girl, we sat in the confessional. The dark, box type place with the screen between the priest and the confessor. My uncle said that now, the participants just sit across from each other at a table. I thought anonymity was important. Thanks again.

I'm a Catholic, but I do not going around preaching about God or Jesus. The only time I talk about it if someone like you are asking for advice.

my advice about confessing to a priest is pure and simple. If you really want to talk to a priest that's your choice. Some people are different and prefer to talk to the person who's involve in their problems. But if it's only one person involved, than it's your choice if you want to talk to a priest if your freally interested  in that.
