Re: Kabu
This happens to all of us now and again. On an average week, I will work on one main story (my current main story is the "Russian Guy), but when I reach an impasse of words, I slip over to my political dystopian story. I made a little progress there, but soon, my brain began to work on the Russian Guy story again.
It's always good to have one or two stories on the back burner when the main story falters in your head.

Re: Pat
Exactly. When I was writing results for the local dirt racetrack, the editor of the local paper would tell me, "You have 672 words."
He meant 672. Not 673 and not 670. 672... and you learn to tailor your words to the needs of the editor.

I want to be writing. I am in a slump, I blame it on the holidays.

When I was a J-student and worked as a stringer for a local daily, it got to the point that I worked best with a deadline. The words had to fit the "news hole" in the paper, so the story had to be condensed or expanded to fit at times. Of course, I was not a happy camper when the editor decided to trim this or that and his cut left a hole in the story. But my job these days is to learn from what others write. Thanks!
