I was spanked as a child, mostly by my father and once in a while by my mother. It's not something I would do if I ever became a parent.

You reminded me of when we were little kids and had once in a while gotten on the very last nerve of my very gentle and soft-spoken dad. We never liked to go to sleep at bedtime. Daddy would finally come in on his third trip of warning (after Mother had also been In to tell us to go to sleep as well). He’d have his belt out like he was going to hit us but then he’d just tap the bedpost and tell us to go to sleep or we were “going to get it.” We always giggled at him then but we did shut up and conk out. He never hit us.Nowadays that is not considered good parenting skills but then…it was different. Thank you, dear. Sissy and I were both Daddy’s Girls.

When I was a kid we got spanked with a willow switch for bad behavior. We knew there were consequences for breaking rules. Not sure that coddling and praise for lesser efforts is good for a kid - gives them unrealistic expectations. Life is hard, we needed a bit of toughening to be ready for it.

I remember my Mother hitting my legs once, mind I deserved it. Mostly we were sent into the passage for being a pain. I cannot remember my Dad ever hitting me but he did at times say things that made me feel rather ashamed. Please do not do it to me. 😒😒🌺

I have no clue what the man-child experienced, but I survived childhood abuse as have many others. It is most definitely a controversial topic.
