Running counter to this wisdom is the powerful current of fear, of guilt and shame that is so painful to face, that is the legacy of the wrongs of our predecessors. If only people could get to the realization that we are not our ancestors, that we need not take on the shame of their deeds even if we do need to pay for them.

Do I agree with this post. absolutely!! It is Totally necessary to understand the history of our countries, we are still known as parts of the new world so we should drop that and start with histories of the peoples who were here first and what happened to them and then learn all about slaves oh and Chinese peoples and etc.
