Here they fire off a fireworks show from the top of Pike's Peak--not noisy, but very far away and kinda small. But there will be the scoff-laws around here to impress only themselves.

I don't like firecrackers, gunfire or in fact any sudden noise - someone
once threw a cherry bomb (a big loud firecracker) that went off behind me as I was on my way home from work one winter evening, and I've been jumpy about sudden & unexpected noises ever since. I hope you have a joyous new years day and the whole year is full of good things.

I'm not keen on non-professionals shooting off fireworks. There is so much risk for injury...Love and fear often seem to go together.

I've had a lifetime of bangbangs birthing a new year with lots of fun, lots of hopes, lots of plans. I've just about had my share. But looking forward to beginning this one. Your "storm-battered ships dipped and rolled in turbulent seas" makes me remember Mark's tales of his adventures in the USNavy.
