Good morning
My secret is similar to yours except that I was the one who snuck the neighbor kids in when my parents were at work. I had a system that when one of them pulled up in the driveway, the kids would all run out the back door and down the side of the house to the front, escaping undetected down the driveway and out to the street. I never got caught, but I stopped sneaking them in after I got the blame for the mess that they made in my kitchen during one of their visits.

I like your secret!!! At about that same time in my neck of the woods, life was pretty much like that with seven of us kids of varying ages, and always a lack of money for the finer things in life. But we had music, and listening to fun stuff on the big old Philco radio and we always sang along, and danced when Dad wasn't home. He wasn't against dancing, he just liked peace and quiet at home. "Quit slamming the door," he'd yell out, "and quit running in and out!"
