Archie has finished hoeing around the dahlias. Now he has to stake them and begin

to tie them up when they make longer shoots. It is still time to have ground frosts,

but I have given up worrying about that. This is funny, really; Archie told me he

has to have an internal probe. He has had one before. I do hope it is nothing

serious. He does not seem too worried. It made me smile reluctantly, he said the

NHS had sent him a double dose of medicine to take before the examination. 'No

way am I taking a double dose,' he said with a chuckle. 'Someone said the last

time he had just one dose he had to visit the toilet thirty times.' Well, I suppose

sixty would be over the top.

Re: Good Afternoon Sassy

Yes, I used to have friends on Facebook, but they have passed away. I am tempted to join a poetry club but as always some folk are not very amiable.

Re: Good Morning goldiec

We grow our tomatoes in a greenhouse. They tend to get blight when grown outside. I tie mine to canes and pick out the side shoots. I grow them in pots and feed at times with a seaweed fertilizer. I wish I had planted sunflowers, but I think it might be too late here now.

Re: Good Afternoon Sassy

I have only had purple cabbage pickled. We like the green shoots as a fave it is sold at times as Tenderstem here. It is like purple sprouting but green more like asparagus.

Good Morning

C_C_T, I hope your growing season is good this year.  I'm hoping the same for us.  Our peppers and tomatoes have a good start and when Roy puts the tomatoes in the garden he will put cages around them so they will stand tall.  The last thing we want is for our plants to be bending over and our tomatoes touching the ground.  I really hope Roy plants the big sunflowers along the back fence.  They are a sight to see once they start growing.  I hope you have a good day.  It's going to be 84 in the city today.

Good afternoon

Facebook isn't so bad. It allows one to post photos and keep up with old friends. It can be a pain if one does not enjoy online interactions. I have a few Facebook friends from our Blogit community who share similar interests with me. It is great to talk to people from different parts of the world.

Good afternoon

I see coleslaw in your future. My favorite variety of cabbage is the purple heads.

Re: Sea_Gypsy

To be honest, I don't ever go there but relatives, I suppose, treat it as the norm. Well it was a stray cat but it is chipped so it really does not belong to me; I wondered if its owners had a dog and it has gone.

Re: I used to think those little white butterflies were pretty until Mom

Yes Pat and the only thing I have seen to nobble them apart from sprays are wasps they will take them when they are small.

Re: FS

Hit and miss I expect, but there are old sayings. Oak before Ash etc. I guess mostly it was guesswork and experience taught by forbears.

The dahlias will be pretty. That's a shame about your cat. Hope he returns. Sorry but I don't know anything much about Facebook.

Cabbage Moths Mother called them and we were allowed to run around the garden and catch them and put them in a jar. When they were doppy from lack of O2, Mother would feed them to her chooks!

Be careful with those friend requests on Facebook. Fraud - they will use names of your friends, or friends of your friends, just to rope your in. If anyone I already know asks me to be a friend, I contact them by other means too make sure it is the real person.

I used to think those little white butterflies were pretty until Mom

told me they laid eggs on the cabbages and other things, and those eggs turn into squirmy worms that chew on leaves. I guess there's no free pass in nature.

There is always a lot to consider with the weather when it comes to gardening. I wonder how people did it back in the day without forecasts.
