Re:

C_C_T, they ate every bite and didn't leave a morsel for another day.  I'm very surprised by that.

Well how wonderful for the birds I expect they will have filled their tummies to the brim.

Re: Mashed potatoes with butter or gravy is one of my favorites.

Sassy, I love our New Year's meal.  I think my favorite part is the dumplings.  I only make them once a year.

Re:

Ciel, I hope you have a wonderful New Year!  I'm thinking of buying some sunflower seeds for our birds.  I think they might love them!

Mashed potatoes with butter or gravy is one of my favorites.

I bet your house smells heavenly. A hot meal on a chilly day is just perfect.

You've reminded me, I need to refill the bird feeder on the deck today! I see the little birds flash by the living room window on their way to the feeder--some finches, a couple of towees, and now and then the doves stop by the old homestead!

Have a beautiful New Year's weekend, and may it last the whole year through!

Re:

Taps, Roy puts birdseed out every day for the birds and they always eat it but it seemed like they devoured the wreath.  Now that the wreath is gone they've gone back to the birdhouse to eat their regular food.  I know my neighbor put some really good things in the wreath.  We grew up eating dumplings for the holidays. We all love sauerkraut too.  My Dad's family was from Czechoslovakia. Thank you so much for the comment.

Now that they have eaten there, they will expect you to keep putting them there.  They will come back year after year to the same place looking for what they once had.  Happy Happy New Year.   Dumplings and sourkrout sound so good.  I grew up on that.  My Czech/Bohemian heritage.

Re: If there is snow, or ice glazing your neighborhood, then the birds

Pat, thank you so much for sharing this info with me.  I'm sure this is why they've eaten every morsel.  Thank goodness we put the wreath outside when we did.  Roy just told me the last tiny piece is now gone too.  I just read to him what you wrote and he said he didn't know so we are both thankful that they got food to eat.

If there is snow, or ice glazing your neighborhood, then the birds

can't get to the vegetation they usually count on. I read once that a bird uses so much energy with its rapid heartbeat and in order to fly it has to eat several times its weight every day to survive. So I know they're thankful for your birdseed wreath.
