I passed every day all last year the construction of the electric infrastructure over a closed railroad. It looks like that's all that's wanted.

I've never been on a large railroad. We have small train system in Baltimore called the Light Rail. I have used it to get to Baltimore events. It's nice.

I love the story of the railroad connecting the new territories to the
east coast states. I grew up in Lewis County in Washington state - which was where the Lewis & Clark expedition ended its exploration - and now live near the site where
Lewis & Clark camped at the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers as they
prepped for the journey. My grandma, my mother and three of her siblings rode that
train from North Dakota to eastern Washington in the early 1900s to join Grandpa
Bert on the homestead he staked out near Yakima.

I love your story about the feather duster.
A small child might believe that it is a chicken when tucked under an arm. Your train travel reminds me of our a few years ago when we crossed the states from Pittsburgh to Reno. I ended up with vertigo and was sick most of the time that we visited Nevada. My train trip was nowhere near as fun as yours.

I am watching a similar series on Netflix called, "Hell On Wheels."
They too are building the railroad across to the west. The characters are living in Cheyenne. There is plenty of trouble with Native Americans scalping anyone who crosses their territory. It also features gambling, prostitution, gunfights, and a Mormon community with a fake Bishop. It is easy to get caught up in these series.

Thanks for sharing such a great memory. I would have loved to ride that train. I loved the picture of the boomerang. It was so obvious your Mom was protective of her girls. I love that although I know it was trying at times for you.
