Re: Re: Re: Re:

You may be creating a monster writer that will leave you far behind.  But, I think that would make you happy.  Best wishes to both of you.

Re: Re: Re:

LOL... I have yet to figure out how to make her do anything that she does not want to do. All I am doing now is 'instilling the habit.' I don't care if she writes anything at all, but she has been asking me 'how to do it' on a steady basis. I've done my best to show her how I do it and have given her the tools to do it, but I wouldn't force her to do it if she didn't want to do it.

In my opinion, you can't write every few days or once a week and hope to be a writer. It has to be done at least five days a week, even if it is only 300 words a day.

I promise you that if she does something, it will be of her own volition.

Re: Re:

I hope she is enjoying the writing she is doing and not doing it just to make you happy.

Re:

Thanks for asking!

Lisa has made attempts at writing various things, but has never really had the time to put her heart into it. Now that she has been 'medically retired' due to a job related injury, I am encouraging her to try again. She is a bright lady (and I'm not saying that because she is behind me with a big ruler) and I think with some encouragement, she could turn out a set of good short stories.

A friend of mine from Cornwall England writes collections of short stories with an interesting twist. The first story has ~1000 words, the second has ~2000 words, and so forth until story ten has ~10,000 words. I have been slowly working on a project modeled after her concept. I can't remember how many I have done, but probably six right now.

I think I've posted this, but I have set her up with her own office (with real walls and everything!), computer, and (my) 28" Roku TV so she can listen to music or to whatever she wants to watch/listen.

One of the days that we spent along Lake Superior, we talked about her attempting to write something for publication. We discussed styles, ie, I am a pantser, but she might be a plotter or maybe a pantser who plots. She hasn't figured it out yet.

I am encouraging her to spend at least 45 minutes a day writing something. I always hated writing drills, because my mind doesn't work that way, but since I started giving her small projects (500 to 1200 words) to write about, she has been working at them. Sometimes I hear foul language coming from that office, so I stay away. No sense poking the dragon, know what I mean?
