So true Kabu. The poor woman must have been desperate. Perhaps the only alternative  appeared worse. There is a lot to be said for not bringing unwanted children into being.

I am sure that we all have similar relatives.

A colorful family is what shake's things up a bit, making for better conversations, histories and traditions.

Our immigrant ancestors are from the same areas.

I recently learned that I am 82% English/Wales and 18% Irish after taking the DNA test through ancestry.com.

It's amazing what our forefather and foremothers went through. In my case, I'm amazed the Italian side of the family were able to handle the poor conditions on the ship from Italy to the United States.

These stories have so many shades...they are touching, inspiring and heart breaking too...

India and Pakistan had a bloody partition in 1947 so a lot of people crossed to one side or the other with nothing and started life from scratch. My granny had so many stories to tell and my mother in law never got over the big and beautiful mansion she left behind in Lahore. They rebuilt their lives, adapted and moved on.

Re: Immigrants

My Fathers side were Huguenots from France as well. Queen Eluzabeth 1st gave them Sanctuary and a chapel in Caterbury Cathedral to worship in. I am a direct decendent...and My Great Grandparents migrated from Kent in the UK to Australia.

You said it well.   Life has never been easy for most of the people of the world.....especially the female half.
