Re: CCT,

What do you feed tomatoes?  I have been saving used coffee grounds, powdered egg shell, and am starting a compost.

It has been so hot here the young tomato plants look a bit anemic so I have given them a dose of Tomato feed diluted. What we don't want is cold weather after all the sunshine.

Re: sassyass,

We have had snow on Mother's Day twice in the 6 or 7 years I've lived in Colorado Springs. I've sometimes had to bring my deck garden into the living room for a few days--because of the nights!

If you can get it to start, an avocado makes a great houseplant. Unless, like TAPS' very successful experience, it grows too well!

I can't wait to plant my tomatoes and peppers.

Here in our area, we are warned to wait until after Mother's Day. It was 70 here today, but tomorrow could be 50. I would love to grow avocados, but Pittsburgh isn't suited for that so I have to depend on our local grocers.

Re: Pat,

Thanks, it will require much luck! I tend to forget to water things. However, we have on order a watering timer gadget, and one of those waving kind of sprinklers that we can shape to the garden. But I'll have the tomatoes up on the porch so they won't get watered from the top. I hear that's bad for them.

I used to have tomatoes to give away even after I made my own

canned tomato sauce, including sweet peppers, onions, etc. from the garden. I thought it was a good idea to teach my kids how to grow things. Nothing tastes quite as good as a ripe tomato right off the vine.  Good luck with all your green growing stuff.

Re: Sea Gypsy,

The biggest is maybe 2-3 years old, the next was started last year, and the smallest is from this past winter.  I've got one more shipment of huge avocados coming this week, and that could be as many as half a dozen more seeds ready to start.

Your avacado tree is great! Here you can’t buy seeds so you must use them from veggies.,you can’t order plants or seeds online through Home Depot as they are out of stock! Beautiful garden.
