Agreed. I spend about 30 minutes a day 'selling myself' on various aspects of the Internet, libraries, and the occasional book stores, something that is becoming hard to find anymore. Will I become famous? Not much chance as the market is flooded with good writers. As long as I don't become infamous, life will be good.

Writing is creative expression, a way of discovering what we know in our
unconscious if it hasn't been obvious all along. Publishing and becoming famous is selling/marketing - a hard job in my experience, and I don't like it. An aspiring actor I knew at SIUE in the early 70s said of artists and actors "We are all whores. The secret is to know it." Not sure I'd put it so bluntly, but the notoriety got that midwest kid some opportunities in Hollywood.
