Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Aba Brother - We all see our own truths and our own beauty.

It is indeed interesting. When I was really quite small, I had found a grade school mathmatics text book with addition problems in it in a house we had moved into. My father taught me the simplicity of written numbers, of counting, and how to do very simple beginning math addition problems.

The numeral One had one mark; 2 had two marks: the top and the bottom of the written number; 3 had three counts: the top, the middle, and the bottom; 4, etc.  Zero was nothing, and he demonstrated how if one puts the thumb and index finger together, it forms a circle; there is nothing in it, so it is a Zero. I solved the math problems.

Hahahah. You make me laugh. A woman's prerogative, to agree and to disagree. Yes, it was well-intentioned.

It is quite interesting how he could arrive at zero, I’ve studied a bit about those ancient brains and was amazed that 1, 2,, 3, 4 etc were written almost like we write in English today.

Re: Re: Re: Aba Brother - We all see our own truths and our own beauty.

And yes, I did know that about the number zero.

Re: Aba Brother - We all see our own truths and our own beauty.

True, big sis. There lies the difference between an individual and the universal truth. The sun going round the earth was a belief but not true, for which lives were lost. The earlier belief of geocentrism was replaced by heliocentrism. Incidentally, the number zero, which means nothing and everything, was discovered in India by the mathematician and great astronomer, Aryabhatt, in the 5th century AD. All the violence in the world is pivoted around “I’m right and you’re wrong”. All the same, I do respect your point of view, and that everybody has a right to believe what he/she thinks as right. Many thanks sis for your fine comment.

Aba Brother - We all see our own truths and our own beauty.

Fabulous post. Truth dwells in in the home of each person’s beliefs. But to me, it is not always synonymous with beauty. We believe whatever we choose, while possessing an intellect that reserves the right to adjust our concept of truth. You have covered so many salient points here. I am humbled to the point where perhaps I may not be able to respond in kind intellectually. However, the concept of the number Zero comes readily to mind.  The topic of belief vs. truth could, and perhaps has and will prevail ad infinitum. And in the end, what is - is. And will be. Thank you.
