Any generation that faces a major war has experiences that are very different from growing up in normal times....we never faced such experiences only read about them. It was tough indeed.

That must have been quite an experience for the school kids. You guys held on tough while we worked to produce the military equipment to take Europe back, and we get attacked in the Pacific. It was a rough time for all...and you guys persevered!

New expression to me: 'form a crocodile'. But the sense of it
comes out as I read on. I wish we could forget those old times when air raid shelters and drills were part of the routine. And let the wars and rumors die. If wishes were horses... etc. Thank you for reminding me this isn't the first time we've had reason to fear for the safety of children, that it's possible to survive and just be.
