Re: CCT,

Some are willing to go with the flow--whoever is on top gets to make the rules, and everyone else makes the best life they can within those rules. Others have 'better' ideas about what the rules should be, and they will do their best to tear down the top and rebuild it in their own design--at which point they become the same as the ones they tore down, and someone else knowing 'better' starts working at tearing them down...

Re: Corbin Dallas,

Only when packed like sardines in that subway car--a woman asked if I am a Christian, and tried to hand me a tract. Generally, I think, this kind of behavior is considered rather rude, however nicely it is intended.

The cathedrals, like temples and pagodas, are marvels of architecture regardless of one's spiritual views, which accounts for their attractiveness to visitors who may not themselves be Christian.

Re: RPresta,

Why? Perhaps because it seems to be human nature to seek comfort and security which are perceived as more certain only through power over resources, and control over their distribution. This without empathy turns into greed--for resources, for power, for dominance...  And focusing on these things makes us forgetful of and even oblivious to the needs of others.  So all the energy gets concentrated at the top, while the foundation is neglected and allowed to fall into disrepair.

You are right of course,  a pity it takes so long to build  a solid structure. So many keep trying to tear it down.

I am curious....

Have you met any Christian Chinese?  Do the guides talk about any currently active religions...point out their institutions?

When one goes to Europe, Canada, or comes to the US, the famous cathedrals, are a huge attraction for foreign visitors.

It seems you have given this considerable thought, and it shows in the resultIng post. Yes, this is true, imho. Civilizations have evolved this way. Why? Another day‘s post perhaps.
