It looks like winter is here to stay...One feels the mixture of comfort and discomfort in your poem.

When little tykes on the farm, Bird and I would slide down the hill of manure always present behind the barn. A butterfly - your poem.

Re: Pat
They thought that was a good name for a cold blast,I expect. I am pretty sure it takes six months for the manure to be safe to use, of course not all grass land is treated, but who knows which? Glad you liked the poem.

Re: RPresta
Thank you RP. Archie said the heap is enormous and he will only get the manure,
from the old stuff. I think the chemicle only lasts 6 monthes but I have not told him that

Re: Corbin
1947 was the big one. We do get a nasty one occasionally, but usually it soon melts. Although saying that it did weigh on two of by net tunnels last year and made me swear.

Lovely poem, very good job with your concept and wording; just very nicely done. And I'd stay away from Archie's idea there.

Beast from the East? I hadn't heard that one, and can only think
it may be a weather front. Don't know why it did not occur to me that horse manure could contain contaminants, pesticides, etc... Of course if the horses eat in a field where the wind has carried the overspray... (well, duh!). I like your poem so much, especially noticed the line about silver words. Nice work!
