I used to live in the Cascade foothills, and it wasn't odd to see snow
in April sometimes, and we could drive up to Mt. Rainier or St. Helens (this was before the blow-up) and enjoy snowball fights even in August. But these days, in this place, I no longer this year want to see a single flake, or even a heavy frost. I am SO ready for long sunny days, and in a month or so, fireflies dancing above the lawn...

One of my best memories of childhood was riding in an old-fashioned horse-drawn buggy in some sort of historic parade with my grandparents. That would have been around 1956, I think.
It would also make us more humane, perhaps, at least some of us, having to care for a horse rather than a car that doesn't feel neglect. Well, until the engine blows up for lack of oil.
