Re: BC

I'm glad you didn't miss it either. LOL. The media plays it one way, their way, but most of us are just normal people. There are plain old soccer moms here who don't have balloon boobs and puffed up lips, and guys who paint their houses and mow their lawns on weekends, people who go to work to earn a living, and most of us aren't running around loaded all the time. Still, you have made some valid points.

I have painted the picture the way it was painted to me, so I'm as guilty as the media folks. I knew that might be the case, and hence the 'News Flash' headliner. Remember, these are only proposed issues that someone wants to put on the ballot. We will see how far they go. May sanity prevail, cause in spite of it all, this is a great state, or should be.

And to answer your question, I was gonna start it tomorrow, but in light of my grandson's injury, it's going to have to wait a day or so, or more. Thanks for asking, I didn't forget either. And I'm glad you remembered.

Re: Aba Bro

It was explained by someone on television as to being relative to a case of mental abuse, if in a setting such as an institutional setting. In that light, I can understand. Remember, these are only proposals that someone wants to get on the ballot. However, they are different, aren't they. Thanks very much though, and I can see the way I tell it that it seems ludicrous.

I'm so glad I didn't miss this post (when are you starting that other blog?  No, I didn't forget... lol).

I don't know what to make of California.  I like that they are progressive but some of it is so over the top.  In many ways, they are as out of touch as they would say are the "red" states.

I'm so over California trying to glorify or make drugs cool.  Legal or not, it's not a great choice to do drugs as part of your every day lifestyle.  Also, the law on calling people by a wrong pronoun is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.  What about calling people ugly, stupid, fat, or pick any racist slur out of the book (I will not list them here).  Do those get included too?   People suck but a year in jail?  Come on...

Presta Sis

It's the he/she or tha she-he aspect made punishable up to a year that I find most revolutionary hilarious.

Re: Annicita

Yes, it is all interesting, indeed. Thank you. You are right, and this is not the first state to try to push a movement to secede from the union. But the repercussions are something to consider.

Re: FSI

FSI, it does appear so. However, there are some strange things going on everywhere right now, but yes, these are up there! The secession move is different than the move to split Northern and Southern California. It's on Yes California website, and shocking! Just shocking to me because I think of our nuclear power plants, our military bases, our coast, our commercial budgets, our security - our people, lots of things.

Re: shelly_b

Hi, shelly_b! How've you been? Simple. The City of Los Angeles made a rule. That's it. Done and over. But if one ignores all that nonsense, it's a beautiful place here. Yeahh, you're right about the earthquakes, they are a big nightmare.

Re: Nautikos

Oh, go ahead, Naut, there is a point in starting... Even I couldn't resist on this one. As to the water, only the EPA really knows, and they wouldn't tell. LOL. Actually, once the oddities are discarded, this is a really great state! There's hiking, skiing, boating, desert, beaches, mountains, city life, country life, art, music, and dance; whatever one chooses.

Re: C_CT

It sounds nutty to me! LOL! And a bar in the church is really a good one! I should propose that for here, perhaps... WoW!

Re: Pat_B

Hi, Pat! Good to see you here! Thank you for the visit and comment. This info is quite unusual, even for California. Yes, there is a serious move for secession. It can be found on a Yes California website. Unbelievable! And I am not in favor of it.

While I find the treatment of North American Native populations by the early visitors and settlers here abhorrent, I have studied the life of Columbus in detail also. His life was actually sad, with murkey details as to his true name, and even today as to where he is buried. In the 1980s some schools here discontinued granting a day off for Columbus Day, and some civil service employees no longer had Columbus Day as a holiday,so this has been fermenting quite a while.

now that is some interesting possible legislation...seceding from the union? I'm surprised more don't have that pending

There are some strange things going on in California right now. I can why Northern California wants to become its own state and break away from it.

Thanks for the news.  There were some things you mentioned that I didn't know about.

RP

There's no point in starting, but I need to ask again as I did on another occasion recently - is there something in the drinking water in California?

posted by Nautikos on September 3, 2017 at 6:46 AM | link to this | reply

Sounds like change for the sake of change. How about this one a licenced bar is open in our old church at times recently,  pews replaced with chairs. No dancing girls at present.

ten, 15 yrs ago studied the story of Columbus day in "A People's History"

by Howard Zinn. Until then, didn't know there was an issue. We don't like to think our people were part of genocide - but conquest never leaves peace and friendship in its wake. So much else in your post to think about - California is a whole 'nother world sometimes, but I hope they're not serious about secession.

sad that we need to ban things because it is historical, its like burning books. banning something doesnt mean it did not happen and major changes took place.

TAPS

Dear TAPS, I think it speaks for itself. Thank you for commenting on this very difficult day for you. Rest now and take care of yourself, for your family needs you, I think. Prayers for you all.

I'm afraid I don't know what to say, but I'm sure I won't be saying anything new.  I'm too old for that.  Columbus Day it is for me even if they arrest me and throw me in the hoosegow.
