I have to agree with Naut, this doesn't sound like an attack so much as an analysis by someone for whom English is not a first language, but is a fascinating one. And idioms are a wonderful way to explore a society through its chosen turns of phrase that have little to do with rules of grammer and everything to do with imagination and feelings.

I don't agree with Kabu - none of this has to do with jealousy and such. I think this man is not so much concerned with literature, but a better understanding of the character of English language - a worthwhile aim...

Perhaps finding fault with others makes him feel better about himself. He'd have a big time with me as I use idioms right and left across the board. I use them because I like them. Most of them have a wonderful history.

I shouldn't be judgmental but too bad. He is jealous of your ability and talent. he doesn't want to 'get' the book because he has to then admit it is really good so he just nick picks.
