Well when you consider what the minimum wage is...maybe that is good for her. It sucks that employers try to get away with paying the least amount that they can while overpaying executive management

Re: Naut

Well-concealed sarcasm?  Not if I read her body language correctly. She straightened up as she spoke, threw her shoulders back, her face relaxed into a happy smile. That was what caught me - she really thought it was good money. Perhaps, compared to what she'd been able to earn on earlier jobs, it was a step up.

Pat

Is it possible it was well-concealed sarcasm on her part?

Australia is looking to go up to minimum wage of $18.26 an hour australian dollars of course... but living is high down under.

When I was a waitress in an all night truck joint in 1972for a few years I worked Friday and Saturday nights 7.00pm  until 3.00am or when the work was done..usually 5.ooam  The tips went into a jar and the boss bought a Lottery card with it. We never saw a win!!! I earned $13.00 a night.

Yes it is strange , but all due to inflation. Of course in bygone days I used to fetch an old chaps rations .One shlling and four pence. I think this the the trouble with some older folk, they won't spend their savings as it does not feel like they are getting value for money.
