Re: Kabu,

Bolton Abbey still functions. The local folk in some areas have done a fair amount of recycling of stone and other materials since the 1500s. Yes, there must have been an element of karma in the dissolution of the dissolute, but it caught up others in the frenzy of greed from Cromwell and Henry, too.

Great photos.  So much there to see.  So many details.  Fascinating.

Simply enchanting pictures! Are you anywhere near West Yorkshire, Keighley? It was my understanding that Henry VIII, at the time of the Dissolution, also imposed a heavy tax on properties (religious?) with a roof, thus resulting in the removal of the roof and the use of the materials by the people. Is that anywhere near correct. I didn't fact-check my memory! LOL! Love the views. Have a great time!

How long those Abbeys have stood, first as living working Abbeys and then for hundreds more years as ruins. The Church had become greedy and lost sight of their place. I have never had much sympathy for them when the monsters removed their power and treasure. trouble is, it never went to the little people. Ah well nothing changes really.
