Re: Kabu,

I had that same stomach-dropping realization over the daily reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance in school in the 1960s: that "liberty and justice for all" was far from truth. It went, finally, to a further epiphany: that these were not lies about reality, they are statements of ideals towards which we may strive.

I guess growing up also entails the realization that some ideals, values, etc are rather local, even personal, not shared. There are, in fact, those who like war, who don't have the least inkling of love, who count success by the content of their bank accounts.

Re: CCT,

If only the energy companies would realize that they are not in the oil and coal business, they are in the energy business. Then they could redirect their efforts and money to less destructive alternatives to fossil fuels, and while I'm sure there would be problems around whose back yard and local effects and various protests and complaints, it would at least be steps away from fossil fuel side effects.

I remember as a child when I realized that the message of "Peace on earth good will towards men," was actually not happening in so many parts of the World at Christmas time, I was heart broken and shocked. For me it was way worse than finding out Santa was actually Mum and Dad. That said to me that those gifts were actually gifts of love from my parents...but people killing each other and injustice throughout the world on a day of peace and love! I could not come to terms with.

Well thought out Ciel as you know there are protests here against the pursuit of oil.

As long as the liquid gold is suspected there will be pressure upon the residents to allow the process. Of course what you are talking about is a huge worry for those who would suffer or feel damage by the result if a accident should happen,I don't know the answer.

I especially love the last paragraph.  With the smell of turkey roasting, and yeast rolls rising, and the thought of company coming, I think I'm going to go take a quick nap.
