oh god, you had to post about this...
The older I get the less I want stuff than open space... But I have never loved the process of sorting and tossing. Although, there is some fun in discovering old items you thought gone forever...

Join the club Pat I seem to too many of everything and yet when I want something it has disappeared. Probably needs a pit to keep it all in. I suppose somebody will toss it out one day.

I have my desk that I never use now that I just use a lap top computer. On it are stuff like you are writing about and I let it sit there until it is all out of date and then I shred it all.
Next to my desk is a big box and a big bag that is full of clothes. Some worn to holes and some Ugh or too small. gradually it grows and grows and I must do something about it soon.

I do that, too, with my organizing. I accumulate stuff, thinking that I will need it but end up throwing it away during the latest organizing bout.
