Pat

To give without giving offense requires great tact - and is difficult to 'practice' for...

I love the way you write - we are in there feeling what you are feeling. I hated that teacher for a moment...jsut because she knew.

This is important...

to give with tact and sensitivity especially when giving to someone who feels they have nothing to say thank you with.

What a wonderful post.  It hit mighty close to home for me when I was a child.  Mom and Dad worked like all get-out, long, hard hours, dad always two jobs, and we had pride, never expecting anything from anyone.  But, with seven children, there were times that it was hard and we didn't have a lot and some Christmas celebrations was sparse on storebought gifts but big on love and laughter and fun.

I would have been the same Pat. Sadly today some expect gifts as their right, not ever knowing the hard work that had to be done to obtain a decent existence. Your Poor Mum had to be diligent and though poor there was an honor in bringing up her children.

I expect she needed love the same as anyone, but that was a luxury not many could afford.
