as for the cost...

I think you would need to get the group established, and put it to them what should be the financial commitment, after handing out a breakdown of what it costs to self- publish anything.  And shout down anyone who says the group should not pay for real editing.

Slapping on my Editor's hat...

The edit depends on whether you and Joanne are in the sentence as subjects: Joanne and I were the only ones there... or objects: There were no others there but Joanne and me.

The easy test is whether you'd replace the names with we or us.

A thing that must be considered for an intent-to-publish group is what emphasis is to be put on quality vs inclusion. Some in the group may not actually produce something that is of publishable quality. Will you publish whatever you get, because that's the promise made, or will you qualify that promise with the intent to only publish the best of what the whole group produces?

$100.00 seems reasonable for a project that needs to keep going and the project needs a substantial commitment.

Well I never like to commit myself I always say Jim and yours truly. Or try to work around that sentence. The only person there besides me was Joe.  I feel there is a flaw in the language somewhere. Then again I am only self taught so I cannot back up any claim to be truly literate. Goodness knows what you could charge perhaps bags of fruit which you could resell. People do not seem to want to shell out, for some things, but will but lottery tickets with wild abandonment.

I think that the fee should be substantial enough for folks to really commit to. It is sad but if people pay enough they will take a project seriously.

Two stories or poems per person...and if enough money is in the kitty and you self publish you will have money for advertising the book, maybe the local historical society or some other group would be happy to help with the costs and or the selling.

An interesting idea...Off the cuff it occurs to me that 'Stories from the Center' would suggest that the Center is/ought to be the focus or 'unifying theme' for these stories - though I don't think that's really intended; or is it? Oh, and it is 'JoAnne and I' in this case, LOL...
