Isn't it amazing how much love and light our pets bring into our lives and how much joy we feel when we see them wagging tails and jumping all over just at the sight of us!

Winter is a hard time to lose a beloved pet; we were searching for Lucy in January or Feb., if memory serves and I remember how cold it was. Hopefully somebody took him in and cared for him. Most appreciated comment, Dear William...

Childhood experiences with pets and those of others in the neighborhood were so precious. Aw the eye contact and how cute they must have seemed, a cuteness with your own "Puddles" that you felt. The feeling's here in this post love. Very nice  and very real in the less than satisfactory memories too.

I remember a Labrador we had when I was thirteen...it seemed so out of

character for such a loyal member of the family to suddenly just be gone in the middle of a really cold winter...I searched for a few hours in the places that I knew he frequented to no avail...made for a few low weeks that season...

Outstanding writing as always, Kathy...

It is wonderful the connections that of which we make to our pets.

Probably the kindest thing Mum could do in the circumstances it would have been so cruel to have shared her sorrow.but that's what Mum's have to do at times. Your truly wistful poem may have eased the pain a little at the time. I think your Dad had a soft streak he didn't breed the little dog for long,I expect some are not treated so thoughtfully. When my last dog died I just could not go through that again.

what a fabulously well written story ...piece of writing...tragedy....I love it, I hate that Lucy actually died. It is real life and told so well.
