I well remember a laundromat Lothario. He was from Santa Fe, half Indian, half Hispanic, good looking, always smiling, pretty white teeth. Wore a bolo tie with a big chunk of turquoise hanging on it and silver and turquoise rings on both hands. We managed to start doing our laundry same day same time. I never met him anywhere else, never forgot I was married with children, but i enjoyed washing clothes back then.

I always enjoy your descriptions so much....they spark memories of my own, of different laundry rooms and such....and of different dressing convention rules. I can just see you, newly married, snapping your gum.....great story.

Wild how much things and ways have changed since then. This is a blast from the past post - enjoying it greatly! I did the laundromat thing when young married - then we bought a little machine that would wash on one side and spin on the other - first the soapy water, then back in for the rinse. Used it while my first two children were babies. I certainly appreciate my washer and dryer now!

Well at least you had a launderette Pat your equals over here would have been either stoking a copper or if lucky have an electric boiler. Goodness knows how clothes were dried in winter. but then one woman told me when she was a kid they never took their vests off after being plastered with goose grease.

I still never wear Jeans. They were farm clothes and I have never been able to change my mind about them. When DIL went to a big very expensive concert in Sydney along with Son both in Jeans, I felt sad. Sad, that no one dresses for anything anymore.
re the laundromat...you make me glad that when I was without facilities in the bus, I used a copper a hand ringer to squeeze out the excess water and a walk around clothes line and some convenient bushes.
