A substitute art teacher? That should be both fun and challenging. As far as the students themselves, depending on how well they receive that new teacher, I think I'm gonna go with 'hopefully optimistic' . . .

That should be great fun for Charlie!
And since the students' status doesn't change in the least, I don't think there's a useful term to desribe them. They're simply students being temporarily taught by a substitute teacher...However, depending on the sustitute teacher's ability, they might well be either 'happy students' or 'unhappy' students, LOL. But I'm sure they're going to be very happy with Charlie...
