Re: CCT,
It's all trade-offs... myself, I don't want to live so long that I am that powerless, just waiting to move along. It's a very long queue, I suspect. And yes, isolation hurts even when it makes one feel safer.

Poor dear, this is one of the problems we are all living longer albeit with more problems
the ones left behind have to cope with a loss when sometimes feeling the ravages of time themselves. I am glad that you could come together in a kind of harmony, no one likes to feel isolated. Life can be a bit harsh sometimes.

Re: Rasse,
Thank you--yes, they can be! I encourage everyone to make the effort, take the risks of offering resolution with loved ones: suddenly, they can be gone and it is too late. The risk is, the other isn't ready. There were things I just had to let go of, understanding that she would never understand what I wanted her to.

I am so sorry, but it is so good you were able to reconcile differences and that you had a chance to visit her last Fall.
Relationships can be so complicated.

Re: JimmyA,
Thanks, I am doing fine. And, yeah, it does seem like a particularly hard winter so far.

Geez, what is going on out there? I lost an uncle a week and a half ago as well. I'm glad your relationship was at peace, and I hope you're doing okay . . .

Re: Naut,
Yes, she was more than ready to depart. It's true, also, that we are deeply programmed to mourn, despite knowing rationally that death for some is release. I feel for my sister, especially, in this.

What a nicely written post about a very difficult subject--the loss of a loved one. Keep the good memories close to your heart. My thoughts are with you.

I'm sorry for your loss! But we know our fate, and at her age it appears to have been a deliverance for your Mom...Indeed she will be among the stars again, as we all were and will be...

I am glad for you too that you were able to see your Mom. Relationships can be complicated even without complications to further complicate them. I am sorry for your loss and with you in feeling Peace that her pain is finished and she died quietly and with her beloved daughter beside her.
