Re: TAPS,

Yes, I think I will remember to poke it a few times, next time!

The meal worked well, and we still have tasty leftovers, enough to see us through the weekend at least!

A happy, happy holiday week to you!

Re: Pat,

Actually, little of it was lost, draped here and there on the oven racks. The baba ganouj turned out well enough.

Happy and prosperous sounds good!  I wish all the same to you!

Re: CCT,

Funny you should mention beans... When my mom was a girl, she and her 3 brothers were left alone, told to heat a can of beans in a pan of water on the stove for dinner.  Grandma always swore she told them to put a hole in the can.  They had beans burned into the ceiling plaster... And I'll bet the neighbors in the apartment building noticed something.

Re: Kabu,

I took a look in the back yard first, to make sure the neighbors' houses were all still intact, before I thought of the eggplant.

I've made a lot of baba ganouj, but I've never exploded and eggplant.  I just love the stuff.  I will take not, though, of what happened to you and poke holes in it next time before roasting.  I do not like cleaning up messes in the oven.  Your Christmas meal sounds really wonderful and different from the norm.

Oh, geez, that's a shame. I hope you were able to salvage some of it.

I'm visualizing the job of oven cleaning in the midst of the Christmas bustle... Maybe a toast before you start, here's to a happy and prosperous new year...

I would cut them in half Ciel. Crikey you go to a lot of trouble to cook a meal , Now just take a tin of beans and shake them into a saucpan, Simmer a few minutes and Bingo, dinner is served. Have a nice time.
