Re: Re: Kabu,

I agree and although i have never liked Zoos they are changing in some places like your country and Australia to become sancturies to keep the species alive.

Wonderful! My wife has done the same thing with Plains horses . . .

A wonderful idea, and your daughter will certainly appreciate it...as will the elephant.

Re: Naut,

It is an Indian elephant--smaller than those big African ones.

There are way too many exotic/wild animals acquired as pets, and few of them have the fortune to end up in a caring and appropriate place.

Ciel

Many years ago a friend of mine adopted a male lion cub, very cute! It grew, and grew some more...And shortly before he became big enough to think about having one of his kids for lunch, my friend built a cage outside.

From these beginnings, the whole thing snowballed, and grew into a very special place, where endangered animals are cared for. http://www.junglecatworld.com/

Of course, he had a large property...I, unfortunately, just don't have enough space for an elephant...

Re: CCT

I know that she has the wherewithal to get stuff she needs or wants, she doesn't depend on Christmas for it, or her birthday which is midway through January.  And she does care passionately about the animals. Trees and forests are greatly under threat right now, too, but it's true, it isn't the same as something with a face.

Re: TAPS,

Yes, she gets a package of goodies, like a certificate and regular newsletter, and a stuffed toy elephant to cuddle...

Re: Kabu,

It is heart-breaking to realize we could lose these partners on our planet in the next few years, just when we have begun to get to know them.

That's a really nice gift. A few years ago my sister bought my brother a tree it was planted in a new forest, I expect it is quite sturdy now. I don't think he was very excited over his certificate. One has to get something that the person is passionate about,

Does she get pictures and news of Jubilee and stuff like that during the year?

what a wonderful gift. It is impossible to imagine a World without Elephants and this is a great way to help...plus what fun to have an Elephant holding a special place in your heart because of the adoption.

Re: Pat,

If you can't have your own, you can always consider adoption!

I'd like to be able to see an elephant from time to time. They give me

a tranquil feeling, although I've never seen an angry one up close and personal. But I couldn't own one. The neighbors would object. The city doesn't even want us to hang more than one bird feeder because spilled birdseed attracts skunks.
