Wow.  This sounds good.  I'll try really hard to keep up with it.

No it has to hatch out, a Dragon a friendly one that follows him everywhere scorching little dogs behinds as he tries to be matey. Got to be a comedy Pat too many versions of dragons out there.

I like the idea of kid learning a lesson...perhaps I nearly have a thought; it is hiding. That's because it isn't my story...but could it be  that he has to learn obedience the struggle between right and wrong ...not by fighting an actual demon or dragon as much as how nothing good comes of his life until he returns that egg...BUT it is not my tale to tell.

What if it hatches out...

...a boy exactly like him, but better in every way?

Pat

I don't reacall your story of the 'androgynous' world, but it could be interesting.

Snails and similar invertebrates are androgynous, and they seem to like it (at least Mother Nature does, LOL), but aside from the fact that it would be regressive from an evolutionary point of view (something the old lady strongly frowns upon), I can imagine vastly more problems than the ones we are currently facing. In addition to the usual 'War between the Sexes' we could all be engaged in life-long internal 'Civil Wars', LOL...

As to clichés, one of the most common one these days is that of smart but insufferable kids pitted against mothers, strong but not quite as smart, and fathers stupid and wimpy, LOL...
