I apply a lot of TLC, and the whole point of editing (from my perspective) is to strengthen the author's voice. For me it's walking in the other person's shoes. Having worked for a newspaper and seeing dumb edits completely change the emphasis of "my" stories at times, I do my best to keep faith with the writer.

About rewriting someone else's text - it's interesting to think about the point at which your own voice silences that of the original author...

Marvelous post, I never thought of writing like that, Gnomes and such, perhaps a mechanical robot named Loose Screw or something.

it sounds great and i feel sure that the chipmunks or the Gnomes will have something for me to write soon. i have been too caught up in this silly renovation stuff but i will get back to my real world ssssssssssssoon. very sssssssssssssoon!!!

I guess every future generation will find it even harder to write about a different subject.

The early writers did not have that problem to contend with. They might find it a bit more difficult today.

Sounds like fun!

But the lazy prince story was done in a film years ago, back in the 60s:  The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm. She may have to take a look at that so she can change it up a bit.
