Sorry, Greatwriter, but you're still wrong! A balk only awards base runners to advance one base! It does not give the batter first base! Keep trying . . .

That's the way to do it, Kabu! Always good to have at least one other person in your corner, helping out . . .

2. Hit by pitch

Re: Re:

I do agree and so I run to Son # 1 for advice before I do anything well actually these days he does it all for me which I am very grateful for. I would get advice before taking something like this up especially if they are asking for money.

Re: Four ways a batter can reach first base without getting a hit

Sorry, Greatwriter, but #3 is wrong! In order for a batter to be involved in a fielder's choice, he must still make contact with the ball! The question pertained to four ways of reaching first without making contact with the ball! The other three are correct, but there's still one more . . .

Re:

My sentiments exactly, chuck. Once something is signed and sent away, you lose more control than you imagine! I've reached a point in my life where I more or less weigh everything by "pros & cons." If the cons outweigh the pros, I'll pass . . .

I would rather not sign anything that comes in the mail. Lots of confusing questions and materials and no time to read any of it.

Re: jimmy

Been there, done that, jean. Yes, those phone soliciters can be very annoying, and sometimes they won't even let you get a word in edgewise! I too long for the days when things were much, much simpler! Call me paranoid, call me pragmatic, call me nontrusting, but it's getting more and more difficult to trust some of these people sometimes . . .

Re: It does sound suspicious

I'm sure they do, Jeff. But I still don't think it's actually fair for them to claim that a "non-vote" from someone who may or not take part in their stock share offer is a vote against them and their proposal. My wife is actually somewhat interested, but I'm not . . .

Re:

I'm sure, Annicita, that sometimes these "investment opportunities" do pay off, and as with anything else, there are always risks. But to vote for something I don't fully understand, and don't know if I'm under any obligation for future dealings, just makes me somewhat nervous . . .

i had a bank for years i was very happy with, dont know what kink of a bank it was.....then they closed and moved out of state.  my son said to come to the credit union they used and i did and i am very happy there.  i use a debit card and pay bills on line. i am of the age that i wish things would just remain simple, dont ask me to vote on anything any more, it seems like it never makes a difference anyway.  i have been snookered on the phone before to buy something, but once was enough, now i just tell them very nicely please take my name off your list, surprising how few calls i get anymore wanting me to buy something.

It does sound suspicious

but I suppose it's possible they need a certain percentage of yes votes to go forward

Thanks, Carolyn, and consider yourself lucky! Sometimes trying to 'undo' some of those things can be a nightmare . . .

Re: Jimmy

I'm sure it is, Naut, and sometimes it affects me directly, and sometimes it doesn't. Since this one appears to possibly affect me directly, I would still prefer to steer clear of it . . .

Re:

I don't blame you at all, TAPS! We like it that way too. But sometimes, you have to play Sherlock Holmes to make sure you're not getting 'sucked into' anything! It's a pain, but it must be done . . .

I don't like stuff like this.  The older I get the more I want just black and white simple.

Re:

I actually know what you mean, Justi. When my wife first presented this package to me, initially it was extremely confusing. The more I read into it, the less I wanted to be involved! In a way, I think that may be what this bank wanted. There's an old saying that goes: "If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bullshit!" And I do my best to keep my "Bullshit Meter" turned on at all times! And no matter what, I still don't want to get involved . . .

Re: JimmyA

I guess you're lucky, Sir Wiley. I'm not entirely sure what exactly regulates our banks, but I know what usually drives them: greed! And deception is one of their main tactics too! I still find it somewhat disconcerting to think that my non-vote is the equivalent of voting against something! That just makes very little sense to me . . .

Re:

I understand completely, FSI. And these are not isolated incidences! Fast-talking salespeople do this kind of thing all the time! One must be very, very careful, and if needs be, become somewhat adamant and rude, to keep oneself from being taken advantage of! I would still rather not be involved in the voting of this bank's proposal . . .

Re:

That, Kabu, sounds like a much better deal! I just wish I could fully believe that buying into these offered shares is not an obligation just for voting "Yes!" I wouldn't want to one day find my bank account lower than anticipated, and then get some type of certificate in the mail with a heading saying something to the affect of "Here's those stocks we purchased for you behind your back!" Sometimes I just don't trust people in certain incidences . . .

The voting sheet should have a yes ( ) no ( ) and a maybe so ( ) don't you think or even a get back to me later ( ). It is to much to think about at this moment.

I am happy to say all banks up here are regulated by the government, so I don't believe that will happen here. (Thank you for your comment to my post my friend,)

I have never been in a voting situation like that. One time, the YellowPages called Location A, and like you with National Geographic, fired off a bunch of questions. I thought I was just providing the listing, but I had agreed to pay for some sort of plus membership or the other. That was a hassle for my mother to fix.

not really friend Jim. But I have voted yes and accepted FREE shares....I ahve 3000 of such shares that pay a small dividend twicw a year and are now worth $8600.So that makes me happy but buying ...that is different and I would have to talk to my Son who makes those decisions for me these days...
