You hit the nail on the head with this one.
I have to say you hit home with this one. While I have be fortunate enough never to have had an abusive bf, my mother is an alcoholic, and she was very emotionally abusive toward me. I hated her for a while, but now I love her...just hate her disease. Now I talk to her when I know she hasn't been drinking. And she knows that I won't see her unless she stops drinking completely.
I'm lucky in that when she is sober she is a wonderful person. Unlucky in that she is very rarely sober.
