Re: TAPS,

I think letting go is hardest for those who think it's the end.

What a wonderful post.  So many people have a lifetime of problems with their parents, or with their children because they are their parents, and yet it is so hard to let go.

Re: Pat,

I wish there had been time to develop trust and some other things, too, but those two years were better than never knowing that he actually did want me in his life.

Re: CCT,

I think kids will always take hard that realization that their parents are not perfect, nor always right, nor always dependable. And some parents will really deserve some of the resentment they get.  There are some dreadful parents out there!

I don't think it is easier now, it's just troubles of a different color. It was a much later revelation to me that my mother's upbringing was a lot worse than mine, which was why she was unable to show or teach some things a less troubled mother would have done.

Unfortunately this situation happens all too often...

It's good you were able to find peace with your father in those last couple of years. The poem is wonderful. It ought to be a Hallmark card, so many others can appreciate it.

Yes a touching poem Ciel. Sadly we do kind of think our parents will be here forever.

I suppose no one is perfect, probably most have some feeling of resentment against our parents. Of course they were brought up in harsh times and very often had to take the disillusionment of their own relationship on the chin. It is easier to be happier and easier going possibly in the present environment. Well I would imagine so.

Re: FormerStudentIntern.

Your words reminded me of a poem from years ago, and I have added it to the post.

I know what you mean about it being too late to fix problems and friends...
